Ford launches two new electrified models within its MS-RT lineup, featuring a plug-in hybrid Ranger and a fully electric Tourneo Custom, signalling a bold step in European commercial vehicle innovation.
Ford Motor is broadening its MS-RT lineup across Europe with the launch of two new electrified models. These include a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger pickup and a fully electric iteration of the Tourneo Custom van. The new additions stick close to the MS-RT brand’s signature mix of sporty styling and practical utility, but now they’re also equipped with cutting-edge powertrain tech to meet the growing market demands for electrification and performance.
The Ranger MS-RT PHEV pairs a 2.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a combined total of 277 horsepower and 697 Nm of torque. This is actually a step up from the diesel version—adding about 40 hp and 97 Nm, if you can believe it. Power goes through a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a permanent e4WD system, which helps boost its off-road prowess while still delivering good efficiency. The PHEV’s battery is 11.8 kWh, allowing for an electric-only range of roughly 40 kilometers (that’s about 25 miles). And for those who need to tow or carry heavy loads, the pickup can pull up to 3,500 kg and haul one tonne, so it’s definitely built for demanding jobs.
One particularly useful feature for pros: the Ranger PHEV gains Ford Pro’s Power Onboard technology, which means users can power tools or small appliances directly from the vehicle’s battery. That’s a pretty handy addition when working on sites without easy access to external power. To add a bit of exclusivity, Ford Pro will also launch a limited-edition Stormtrak version, which will have refined styling and upgraded specs. Delivery of these is expected to commence in 2026.
Shifting gears to Ford’s light commercial vehicles, the Tourneo Custom MS-RT embraces full electrification with an all-electric model that develops 282 horsepower from a single electric motor. The versatile eight-seat layout of the standard Tourneo Custom remains, but the electrified version gets sporty flair through redesigns in the bumpers, side skirts, and a roof spoiler— all helping to emphasize its sportiness. Inside, the MS-RT version blends tech with style, featuring Eco leather and suede upholstery with eye-catching blue stitching, plus a sizable 12-inch infotainment screen loaded with advanced driver-assistance aids. This electric version fits into Ford’s broader plan to electrify the Tourneo range, which also includes plug-in hybrid and diesel options, providing fleet managers and commercial operators more flexibility.
Both the Ranger PHEV and the fully electric Tourneo Custom MS-RT will be built at Ford’s Dagenham Estate facility in the UK. This move underlines the company’s dedication to local manufacturing and supply chain resilience. Customers in Europe and the UK will be able to order these models later this year, with first deliveries anticipated in 2026. The official public unveiling is scheduled for the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, which runs from September 8 to 14.
All in all, Ford’s push toward electrifying its MS-RT lineup reflects broader industry trends, moving towards sustainable mobility solutions without sacrificing performance or utility. The Ranger PHEV’s torque output, which Ford claims is the highest among current Ranger models at 690 Nm, really underscores its off-road and work capacity. Meanwhile, the all-electric Tourneo Custom supports the shift to zero-emission city transport, all while maintaining passenger comfort and dynamic styling. Honestly, it’s pretty impressive, right?
These models are a testament to how electrification, driver-focused tech, and rugged practicality are converging. They’re definitely well-placed to meet the needs of supply chain professionals, fleet managers, and workshop specialists looking for versatile, innovative vehicles—especially as regulations and environmental standards continue to tighten. I find it quite surprising that Ford is making such bold moves in this space, but it’s clear they’re committed to staying competitive in an evolving market.
