Honda is building pre-production Afeela 1 sedans at its East Liberty, Ohio plant for final validation ahead of a 2026 mass-production start; the luxury EV, launched at CES 2025, will arrive first in California with two high-end trims priced from $89,900 and features a 480 PS dual-motor powertrain and extensive sensor suite.

Honda and Sony Honda Mobility are moving the Afeela 1 toward production, as pre-production electric vehicles are being built at Honda’s East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio for final validation ahead of a mass-production start targeted for 2026 and first deliveries planned in mid-2026 in California, with expansion to additional states thereafter. This initial batch will be used for the final testing phases.

Sony Honda Mobility’s announcement notes that the Afeela sedan was introduced four years ago, but its final form was unveiled at CES 2025, and Sony plans to launch the car in Japan in 2026. The duo are positioning the Afeela 1 in the luxury segment with two trims: Origin priced at $89,900 (approx. €76,950) and Signature at $102,900 (approx. €88,077). Pre-orders are possible for a refundable fee of $200 (about €171).

Honda is assembling the pre-production models at its East Liberty, Ohio plant. Unlike some smartphone rivals, Sony has chosen to collaborate with an established automaker rather than building its own manufacturing facilities.

The Afeela 1 features a dual-motor powertrain delivering 480 PS, a 91-kWh battery, and an expected range of around 480 km, with charging up to a maximum of 150 kW. The vehicle’s interior is designed to be electronics-forward, with an initial edition incorporating 40 sensors, including lidar, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras. A powerful ECU manages the car’s smart functions, and a wide screen, flanked by digital side mirrors, provides access to Sony’s entertainment offerings.
