Hyundai previews the near-production Ioniq 3, positioning it in the affordable EV segment with a 400V platform and 260-365 mile ranges.
Hyundai is stepping up its push into the affordable end of the electric-vehicle market with a near-production-ready Ioniq 3 preview slated for the Munich Motor Show. The plan positions the Ioniq 3 between the Inster and Kona EV in Hyundai’s lineup, with production expected to begin early next year and a goal of delivering a cheaper 400V platform than the 800V architecture used by the brand’s higher-end models. Battery options are expected to include 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh packs, offering ranges of roughly 260 miles and 365 miles respectively, with front-wheel drive and a sub-eight-second 0–62 mph time. The Ioniq 3 is also anticipated to integrate Apple CarPlay Ultra, extensive digital customization and synthesised EV sound effects, while much of its European production is planned for Turkey to curb logistics and tariff costs. Behind the Ioniq 3’s reveal lies Hyundai’s broader push into software-defined mobility. Hyundai Motor Group has publicly unveiled Pleos, a dedicated software brand designed to integrate vehicle OS, infotainment and cloud services into a software-defined mobility ecosystem. Pleos Connect is described as a next-generation in-vehicle infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS with a smartphone-like interface, split view and an AI assistant, supported by a Pleos ID for cross-vehicle personalisation. Hyundai confirms Pleos Connect is scheduled to debut in 2026, with long-term targets to equip tens of millions of vehicles and a Pleos Playground/App Market for developer apps and downloadable services. These Pleos initiatives align with Hyundai’s emphasis on continuous software updates and expanded app interoperability. (Sources: [4], [5], [2])
The software and EV rollout comes alongside safety actions across Europe. In France, Peugeot 308 models produced between 12 October 2015 and 1 February 2019 are the subject of a recall over rear seat belt anchorage that may not withstand crash forces, potentially reducing restraint effectiveness. Official recall documentation advises owners to contact authorised dealers for free inspection and repair and provides details for verifying affected vehicles. This notice forms part of wider Stellantis safety campaigns and underlines the emphasis on occupant protection and timely remedial action. (Sources: [6], [7], [4], [5])
