BlueArrow Pay combines Car IQ’s vehicle-based payment technology with BlueArrow’s connected fleet platform, enabling cardless, real-time fuel and expense payments that cut operational costs and reduce fraud risks for fleet operators.
Car IQ and BlueArrow Telematics have teamed up to launch BlueArrow Pay, a digital payment system meant to replace the traditional fuel cards fleet operators usually rely on. Basically, it combines Car IQ’s vehicle-based payment tech with BlueArrow’s connected fleet platform, making for a smooth, cardless way to pay right from the vehicle itself, as they announced on July 30. With this setup, real-time telematics data is used to authenticate transactions automatically—so, no more drivers sticking in cards, or fussing with manual input. This innovation promises to cut down operational costs, boost transaction security, reduce fraud risks, and make expense tracking a whole lot easier for fleet managers.
But BlueArrow Pay isn’t just about paying—it’s more comprehensive. It supports digital transactions at all major fuel brands, and it’s capable of automatically generating receipts as transactions happen, which simplifies paperwork. Plus, the platform offers guidance to drivers about the cheapest fuel stations around, and they can activate pumps straight from the BlueArrow app. As Stuart Lamm, President of BlueArrow Telematics, explained, the design was meant to embed this stuff seamlessly into their existing telematics and the fuel validation tool, BlueArrow Fuel. Basically, fleets get a safer, smarter way to handle payments without having to overhaul their entire operation.
The market’s definitely showing a hunger for smarter digital payment solutions in fleet management. Sterling Pratz, CEO of Car IQ, emphasized that their partnership with BlueArrow isn’t just a fling—it’s about building a scalable, cashless payment future, using their combined know-how. Car IQ’s platform, known as Know Your Machine, connects a vehicle’s identity to banks and merchants, enabling secure, cardless commercial payments. Pratz also mentioned in an earlier interview that there’s a big market opportunity here—cars are practically “looking for things to pay” for as they go about their business.
The flexibility of Car IQ’s platform is impressive—it handles transactions for fuel, tolls, parking, insurance, repairs, you name it. Fleet managers get a centralized dashboard where they can track transactions in real-time, spot potential fraud, and keep costs under control. It works with existing telematics gear too, so deploying it isn’t disruptive—fleet operators can hop on board pretty easily, gaining automation and improved oversight without breaking their current setup.
Recently, Car IQ’s merchant network has grown, making life easier. For example, they now connect to over 12,000 Exxon and Mobil pumps across the US, letting fleet vehicles pay seamlessly and securely at these stations—no credit cards needed. That’s a big win for reducing the admin hassle of traditional payments and lowering operational headaches.
Car IQ isn’t just hanging out with BlueArrow either. They’re working with other fleet solution providers like Onward Fleet Solutions and Discover to expand connected fleet payments further. These partnerships make it possible for autonomous vehicles to pay for fuel, tolls, parking, and insurance straight through integrated platforms that aim to boost efficiency and cut down fraud. In particular, the Discover partnership enables transactions through their Global Network—pushing toward a future where vehicle-initiated payments become pretty much standard in fleet management.
Even players like Fluid Truck have jumped into the mix, integrating Car IQ’s payment system into their truck-sharing tech. This removes the need for traditional fleet cards, cuts costs, and helps keep trucks running more efficiently.
All in all, the BlueArrow Pay project is a big leap forward in fleet payments, harnessing telematics and vehicle-based payment tech to address some real pain points—security concerns, administrative burdens, and the hassle of physical cards. As more fleet companies embrace these digital solutions, we’re looking at a shift toward fully automated, connected vehicle commerce. It promises a future with tighter control, less fraud, and lower operational expenses. Honestly, it’s pretty exciting for the industry—change is definitely in the air.
